Today's Feeling is?

Today our task was to draw a color monster and write similes on how you're feeling today. First we watched a video of someone reading 'the color monster' and it was about a monster who changes color  depending on what emotion he's feeling. Happy= Yellow, Angry= Red, Fear= Grey,  Sad= Blue,  Calm= Green and Love= Pink. These are some emotions people have and feel but there are more like; anxious, nervous, brave, confused and more. After we watched the video, one of our teachers (Whaea Ocea) presented her screen and showed a few slides with the emotions and photos from the book. Each emotion had its own slide with its own color theme. Happy slide had yellow, anger had red and I think you know what the rest had. Anyway, we had to fill in the empty space in the sentences and we also had to find other words that matched the emotion, basically synonyms. We didn't have time to do the last slide which was love. Today I am feeling calm so I made my monster green and then decided to have a green theme for my google drawing slide. What I found challenging was writing similes for the emotion calm and deciding how my monster should look like. I enjoyed decorating my monster and thinking of how I should write my similes. The dark green thing on her body is her cloths and those rainbow dots are her emotions. She changes color based of her emotions!

Here is how it looks!

How are you feeling today?

Ban Fireworks?

On Wednesday our task was to write an argument on fireworks and if they should be banned or not. We were given one slide to write our argument on and a few minutes to think. Before we got to write anything on our own slides we had to write our ideas on one slide that had a line in the middle of it, on one side it had a"NO" on it and on the other side it had a"YES" and on the top of the slide was the heading which was the question; "should fireworks be banned?" I only thought of the reasons why fireworks should be banned. One person in my workshop agreed and disagreed with banning fireworks and her name was Belinda. What I found challenging was thinking of reasons why we shouldn't ban fireworks so I just wrote reasons why we should ban fireworks. What I enjoyed was hearing others say their opinions on whether fireworks should be banned or not.

Here is the argument I wrote:

What do you think? Should we ban fireworks or not?

🔸Feelings in Maori🔸

Today is Tuesday and we had a google meet at 10:55am (the usual early time) but I joined at 11:15am because I slept in. By the time I joined, Whaea Sam (Breakout Tahi-1 teacher) had her screen presented and was asking some students a question and the question was "kei te pehea koe?" In English, she was asking "how are you?" and we had to say "kei te (feeling in Maori ) ahau." For example, when she asked me "kei te pehea koe Tina?" I would reply with "kei te hiamoe ahau" and hiamoe means sleepy in Maori. I can't really explain the task I was given but here is my work.

How do you say "how are you?" in your native language?

💮Wēteri Kura Pepeha💮

Today is the beginning of Maori language week and today my teachers introduced the class to 6 new blog badges. The badges looked like this:

This blog post is about a pepeha. Today we were split into 3 different google meets for our breakouts to learn. I was in breakout Toru (which means 3 in Maori) and our goal was to make pepeha about our school. We were given permission on how we wanted to present and display our pepeha. I was going to make paper pop-ups but I was in a hurry so I just did one for our Maunga. What I found challenging was trying to say and pronounce the Maori words. What I enjoyed was making a mountain pop up and decorating my slides. Next time I think I might try and make all pop-ups. This is how my pepeha looked and sounded like.

Have you ever made a Pepeha before?

🚀🌠SPACE CHASE🚀🌠

Today for distance learning my challenge/task was to make a chase game using scratch. We had to use scratch to create our game because of the coding that you can use. In my scratch game there was an error with the score board, the error was whenever my rover touched the star the score was supposed to give a point but it didn't so I decided to double the points. The name of my game is ¨SPACE CHASE¨ and you can play it by clicking on this link - SPACE GAME, The steps are here -> SCRATCH . Moving on to how you can control the little rover and that is pretty easy in my opinion, you just use your up, down, right and left arrow keys. Watch out for the alien distraction that follows you wherever you go. I found testing the game out and fixing the mistakes I made with the codes the part I actually enjoyed. A little note: I think it only works with Chromebooks and laptops. What I found challenging about this task were coding the timer, score and the movement of the rover, I face some more problems in this video below! I hope you enjoy SPACE CHASE!

Have you ever made a chase game using scratch?

And if you have what challenges did you come across?

🌠Star shade origami🌠

Today I made a Star shade origami using a template my mum printed out for me. This is the link to the steps on how to make the Star shade origami . I enjoyed playing with my star shade and the thing I really liked about it, was the part when I had to do the mountain folds and the valley folds to make it. The part I found challenging was when I had to fold the major fold lines. What I think I could do next time is to probably do a challenge with my brothers and see who can make it the fastest without the steps and we´ll have 3 practice rounds. Anyway, this is my star shade and I!
